Browser hijacks of Wright Chat site

Post by DavidC »

Anyone else experiencing having their browser(s) hijacked when visiting this site?

It's just started to happen to me - on both my home computer as well as on my cell phone. And, it's happenning on three different browsers I have tried - Opera, Chrome and Foxfire. Also, I have tried clearing of the cache and data on them to no avail and have also uninstalled and reinstalled them - again, to no avail. I have run anti-malware software/apps - and they have shown no problems on my computer and cell phone, either.

On my cell phone, I am not able to reach the site at all. On my laptop I am able to (so far) except when I just tried the 'search' feature and was hijacked.

Wright Chat is the only site that this is happening to for me - which makes me think that the site itself may have been compromised.

I have not noticed any problems, and I check in a few times a day. I use Chrome and Firefox to reach the site on a desktop computer and a laptop/tablet, both running Windows (W7 and W8 ).

My iPhone and office laptop seem to be able to connect and navigate the site OK.

I am still using the Safari browser that came on my Mac. No problems with the site, so far.

Thanks, folks, for letting me know.

I guess it's always possible that I have some malware. But all scans have come back clean - and it's very odd that it happens on both my cell phone and the laptop.......... on multiple browsers ............ And, only on this site.... :?

I had problems yesterday, when I typed in Wright chat and clicked on the link as I usually do, it suddenly diverted to some medical pill website and when I tried several more times it went to a "f***k buddies * site, I nearly choked on my sandwich!

Okay, so there's a second poster with a problem. What does that suggest ? (I ask because I don't know.)

Me too. I could see the individual topics but when I clicked one I was re-directed to various xxx sites. Happy to see things working today.

Malware of various kinds can be expected to proliferate in our brave new world, sadly . . .

. . . except on those rare occasions when the site becomes unavailable altogether -- a phenomenon which is generally shared by all of us, I gather, when it happens ?

In addition to the usual anti-virus software, consider an anti-malware program such as "malwarebytes." There are free trials and stripped-down free versions available to test. They find additional problems that aren't narrowly classified as viruses.

The local Apple Genius installed AdwareMedic on my laptop after it got very corrupted about April 5. This is the newest version of MalwareBytes, which they installed about a year ago for a similar problem. Its a "please make a donation" software. I have no reason to believe it did or didn't come from Wright Chat.
