Post by davdwood »

Does anyone know of an affordable FLW-designed Usonian home currently available for sale, which is not listed on Savewright.org? thanks

Everyone's idea of "affordable" is specific to their own circumstances.

Donald Trump's idea is different from Mother Theresa's.

Every so often a Wright Usonian pops up for less than $1M. Exactly how much less is what makes it "affordable."

There is a wonderful Usonian by Jack Howe for sale for around $400K in MN.

There are usually one or two Usonians in Rush Creek Village by Theodore van Fossen that are less than $1M.

The Winn House by Wright sold for $200K, but needs extensive rehabilitation.

The Miller House by Wright sold for $250K, but needs extensive rehabilitation.

There are a lot of Usonians by various apprentices that are reasonably priced, many in WI. There was a real nice one in Glendale, WI that was on the market for several years that eventually sold for less than $300K.

Kalamazoo and Galesburg MI

Post by bryannc »

There are quite few pretty Usonians changed hands over Kalamazoo MI with a reasonable price tag in recent years. It is to my surprise that I have not seen any FLW houses over Galesburg MI came up for sale, considering there are quite a few great looking ones out there.

Not sure if the Lindholm residence over Cloquet MN is till for sale?

When the Winn house came up for sale, it was not listed on Savewright.org. It was already sold when I found out. I guess you have to keep an eye on everything all the time. Not sure how you can do that.

Best of luck

It appears that Lindholm is still for sale. The price was recently reduced. I believe it is the most "affordable" of Wright designed Usonians presently on the market...

A bit less expensive, this house by John Howe ("the pencil in Mr. Wright's hand") looks nice, and has lake frontage:

Lindholm is a real nice house on a secluded piece of property. It is owned by the family of the original clients so it has been taken care of.

All the windows have been carefully reconstructed with thermo-pane windows. The fireplace opening has been modified (like Lamberson) and needs to be brought back to original.

I especially like the small "office" that is at the end of the living room. Wright did something similar at Rosenbaum.

I just remembered that the Sunday House in Marshalltown, IA will most likely be going on the market within the next year or two. The owner recently died and his wife is currently living in AZ.

It is in very good shape.

The Sunday house:

It's a great place in a lovely neighborhood, with an addition by John Howe...

Paul,
Thanks for your information. Do you happen to know how to contact the owner of the Robert Sunday house? I love that house.
I contacted the realtor for the Lindholm house in Cloquet MN. Unfortunately, he told me that the house has an offer already. I love that one as well, especially for the large land and privacy.
We lived in Iowa for about 10 years and love it very much. Actually went to take a look at the house at Oskaloosa but the house was sold before we could make an offer :(
