Wright's Little Gem
There's a new post at www.PrairieMod.com that has a link to a Quicktime movie of the Emmy winning Michigan Television short documentary on the Maxwell Smith House. Has anyone visited this house firsthand? How does it rank among Wright's USONIAN designs? What would it's closest counterpart be (or doesn't it have one?) How much did the Smith's actually do themselves on this project?

The Smith house is one of the finest Usonians inside and out in my estimation.

Of those photographed in recent years, it is notably the Usonian with Wright's version of a dentil molding as part of the roof fascia.
In Futagawa's photos c 1991 [Selected Houses 6] the 2 x 4 foot module-scored slab appears more gold than red (?) -- can anyone comment ?
There are also an amazing array of routed-board window screens, in particular at the dining "center" of the plan. . .

Just a reminder that tours of the Smith residence will be offered during the Conservancy's September conference here in Detroit ("No, We Haven't Torn Everything Down Yet"), Michigan. Hope to see you!
"Well, there you are!"
