If 14,825 signers of the petition committed $150 each, the $2,223,750 might be enough for the Conservancy to buy the house and hold onto it until a committed buyer could be found. But I doubt that will happen.

I would gladly commit $200.00.

The "developers" who are holding the house hostage are asking a $2.8 million ransom for the house and the property.

$200 a pop would generate $3 million. Great idea Mr. Grant.

So maybe a consortium of Wright Chatters should start-up a Kickstarter campaign to raise the money to buy the David Wright house...

The only other issue (besides raising the funds) is what to do with it if saved...

First things first -- secure the house. Later, we can decide who gets to party there first. I call spring break . . . !

The Conservancy faced a similar problem with a much cheaper house, G/W. They got the funds to buy it, and held it until a sympathetic buyer could be found. With D Wright, that solution is beyond their means.

I've got nothing to spare, but I'd be willing to add $200 to my Visa bill if it would put us over the top.

I had considered the Kickstarter idea several weeks ago, and so I went to their website to do some research on the criteria they specify for their fundraising projects. They require that the project be something creative in nature, and they have a number of clearly defined categories that a project must slot into. Based on what I saw, I did not see a fit for this project.

I would encourage anyone else to peruse the Kickstarter website to see if there is something I have overlooked or misinterpreted. And this is also something that the Conservancy should scour as well. Here is the link to their website:

An alternative venue besides Kickstarter might be a better fit. Indiegogo seems pretty open and less restrictive.

When I first read this, I felt a lot of anger toward the buyer-developer, and by extension any architect who would work with them to design a new homes for this site. Then I realized my anger should be directed at the previous owners of the home who failed to include appropriate restrictions on tearing the house down. Can we line them up against a wall and throw tomatoes at them?

Absolutely correct. The surviving relatives of David and Gladys Wright had control of this property after Gladys' death. THEY are the ones responsible for the current situation by not properly and legally protecting this property into perpetuity.

The offspring of pioneers do not always recognize -- perhaps by dint of overexposure ? -- the achievements of their forebears.

The heirs thought they sold the house to someone (Jean Tichenor) who claimed she was going to restore and occupy the house. There is plenty of blame to go around.
