Kevin W has made sure that the issue and the petition are known to the readers of the Archinect forum; this morning I added a thread to the LottaLiving site.

Where is the National Trust For Historic Preservation in all of this? I sent them an email several days ago and have yet to hear anything back from them, nor have I heard them express an opinion about this. And how about the AIA? Where is their input on this situation?

And this is not just a Phoenix issue, this is a state of Arizona issue as well. But then again, the state government is probably all tied up with chasing illegal immigrants.

Unlike our federal government who is welcoming them in with open arms.

As I mentioned previously, I sent a link to the petition to the NTFHP a few days ago, and was disappointed that I had not heard a response from them.

Well, this morning I came across something even better than a reply. It may not be much, but it certainly can't hurt the cause. Maybe they did get that email after all?

Although it's nice at this point to see the petition above 4500 signatures, I know for sure that there are a lot more folk out there who be glad to sign this. Save Wright should have an alert list of tens of thousands they could mobilize on a petition in a couple of days for situations like this. I would have thought that at this point signatures would be pouring in. They should be and probably could be.

Does anyone know how many signatures they were expecting to collect? Are there more or less than their target?

Now, with the 60-day standstill agreement expired, the race is on to further delay demolition by designating the held-for-ransom David Wright Home as a landmark (you'd assume it already was, right?). If that happens, the possibility for demolishment will be thwarted for either one year (approval for Historic Preservation designation) or three years (Historic Landmark designation). The delay would give the Conservancy could further seek out a “lasting solution for the building.

Concerned? Here’s what you can do: Sign this petition over to help ensure that the David Wright house remains safe from the wrecking ball by another 12 or 36 months. Although the Conservancy has far surpassed the required 4,132 signatures, it certainly won’t hurt to add your name to the list. Or, you can directly write a letter of support to Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, the city council, and/or the city’s Planning Commission and Historic Preservation Commission. All the appropriate addresses and emails can be found here. The first commission meeting regarding the matter will be held Sept. 17. The Conservancy recommends sending your letter by Sept. 10
According to the above quote from a story today on a website called "Mother Nature Network", "the Conservancy has far surpassed the required 4,132 signatures". I'm not sure where that number came from, or who established it as a goal/requirement, but as of this morning the petition has reached well over 11,000 signees. I wonder what happens next, and when?
