Taliesin Apprentices
Does anyone know where I could find information about Taliesin Fellowship apprentices Marvin Bachman and Irene Buitenka? I'm particularly interested in the work they were involved in during and after their time at Taliesin. Any information about Mr. Bachman and Ms. Buitenka would be sincerely appreciated.

Can't really answer your question the way you'd like, but this is all the information I've got:
Bachman: spent 2 years at Carnegie Tech. In the Taliesin Fellowship from 1949-50. Killed in auto accident in 1950 while supervising the FLLW Savin House in Chattanooga, TN. So at least we've got one building by FLLW that he worked on.
Irene Buitenka: the last name we have for her is Buitenkant (Nathan). This comes from a directory that was created for the Fellowship a number of years ago. The directory seems pretty accurate and thoroughly researched. In the Fellowship with her husband in 1946, last known to have resided in Pound Ridge, NY. No information on her education. I don't know what Wright was doing in 1946 off the top of my head. I don't think they're mentioned in Curtis Besinger's book, Working with Mr. Wright: What it Was Like, but you may want to take a look at it just in case.
"The building as architecture is born out of the heart of man, permanent consort to the ground, comrade to the trees, true reflection of man in the realm of his own spirit." FLLW, "Two Lectures in Architecture: in the Realm of Ideas".

Dear SpringGreen:
Thank you very much for the information about Mr. Bachman and Mrs. Buitenkant. The information you provided me is quite helpful to my research. I will be sure to review Besinger's book for additional information.

You might contact John Geiger at <[email protected]> He was at Taliesin from 1948 to 1954. He has done a lot of research on the Fellowship, and might have information at least on Bachman.
