Mrs. Stewart Richardson, (S 282, 1940) told me that the cabinet work in the eastern brick triangular pier (the other two are fireplace, and utility room) supporting the living room roof was intended by Mr. Wright for a television, because of course he knew such a thing was coming. When the Richardsons saw what a "terrible squawking box" the television turned out to be, they "wouldn't have such a thing in our living room." However, no "open sesame" intended for that one, in contrast to the 1954 Christian residence, by which time Wright knew how ugly the television set was.
