Special for Wright Chatters: Wright-inspired and Arts & Craft Furniture Sale, Barrington, IL
I have arranged an EXCLUSIVE SALE , for Wright fans, on Saturday, September 17, from 10 am to 2 pm, at 202 Stonehenge, Barrington, Illinois, at the home of my friend, famed opera singer William Powers. I visited Bill’s home again this week to enjoy his home, furniture, and camaraderie.
Over a period of more than 20 years, through remodeling and additions, Bill turned a simple Barrington ranch house into a fabulous Wright-inspired home, with wonderful built-in furniture as well as freestanding furniture. (See photos on this link to Flicker below) Bill recently entered into a contract to sell his home, and agreed to my request to invite to his home some Wright fans who would be interested in viewing the home and who might be interested in purchasing some of his Wright-inspired and Arts & Craft furniture, as well as other items.
None of the pieces of furniture for sale were original to a Wright home, but the pieces were reproduced and purchased from exclusive dealers, were custom-made based on the specifications of original Wright pieces, or were custom-made in the Prairie style. Many pieces are unfinished quarter-sawn oak. All of these pieces are in mint condition. Wright homes from which the pieces are based include the Dana House, Darwin Martin House, Barton House, and Booth House.
A few unusual items for sale include a 1910 Steinway Upright Vertegrand piano, and 1876 reed/pipe organ, and a 1956 T-bird with all options.
Come and see a fabulous home but be prepared to be tempted to buy something to take home with you.
