In honor of the occasion, PrairieMod has posted some photos from the Scott Architectural Archive documenting Wright's birthday from 1953. See them here:

Where did that rug come from? Doesn't look like the sort of thing FLW generally used.

The rug design in the photos could be interpreted as a variation of the Japanese Chrysanthemum crest (which is also utilized in the Imperial Seal of Japan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Seal_of_Japan).

The flower also happens to be inside an octagon shape...so a geometric Japanese design seems to theoretically fit with what appealed to Wright and would seem to make sense as to why he would put it in Taliesin...

All speculation, but not too far-fetched in my opinion.

The pretty young apprentice Nancy D'Astous is the wife of Architect Roger D'Astous who had a fine career in Canada.
Roger went to Taliesin after studying at the Beaux Arts.

Following up on the comment about Olga (and she would have driven me to an early grave for sure) Edgar Tafel, trying to explain their relationship, told me that Mr. and Mrs. Wright made love every single day until his final illness.

Happy Birthday FLW ! Just returned home from Taliesin West, enjoyed some fine birthday cake provided by Indira and Heloise. Not many there as most all have moved to Spring Green for the summer. Others in attendance, Arnold Roy, John Rattenbury and Kamal Amin. I even had seconds.....(LOL)
