That is a wonderful house in a great location in one of the finest suburbs in the US.

If the stair baluster -- albeit now painted -- is original to the house, it represents a rarity in Wright's work, wouldn't you say ?
It at least incorporates the unaccented corner -- an example of continuity -- found broadly in his work; one thinks of the Charnley stair, for instance.

The existing stair in the house, shown in the real estate ad photographs, does not look original.

That's a real gloomy house on the outside. What color should the new owners paint it?

Just kidding.

I was able to tour the house today and found it in reasonably good shape for being 105 years old. There are A LOT of stained glass windows in this house!! A new buyer could put a preservation easement on them and save a lot of $$$ in taxes. The house is NOT dark inside. The exterior porch was rebuilt by John Thorpe last year and won a local preservation award for his efforts. Kitchen and stairway need to be reworked in a more sympathetic manner. The house feels larger than the stated 3000 sq ft. Basement is unfinished. The house is located on a short dead end street.

I also toured the house yesterday during the realtor's open house. The home is lovely and light, and the floor plan still works well today. The house is about 1/2 block from Lake Michigan in a very nice neighborhood in a very nice suburb. While a new owner would probably want to do some updating of the baths and kitchen, the basic house is great. The windows are not to be believed!!!!! And there are so many of them! Some elements of the original design, like the benches by the fireplace and some ceiling trim, are missing the photographic evidence exists to replace them and make a delightful home really magnificent.

The realtor is knowledgeable about Wright. She has sold 8 FLW houses over the years.

Some years back, this house was almost lost. The neighborhood is so desirable that the land begs for McMansions. I don't recall how it was saved, but it was by the skin of its teeth.

The current owners may have been the ones who saved it. They have been there for 19 years.
