Computer Trouble

Post by Laurie Virr »

A couple of weeks ago I received a Private Message on Wright Chat. It was from somebody who signed themselves 'Blackk Man'. [2 K's] I opened it, thinking it would be secure. Since that time my computer has been running very slowly on Safari.

This evening I received another Private Message on Wright Chat. This was from 'Razzor Man' [2 Z's]. I put it straight into the trash.

If the first message placed a bug in my computer, could the same have happened to yours?

I must add that I clear the Safari cache at less than weekly intervals, and delete the other appropriate files regularly.

I received the same message last night-opened it on my blackberry so no harm (and did not click the link). Definitely spam or virus

Same thing but I didn't open the links. Mine were from Skinman and razorrman.
Good thing I have a set virus scan on my computer already and I do not click on links unless I know the site.

I, too received a pm several weeks back (actually from "manninblackk") I did not open the attached link because it looked suspicious.

I have some theories as to who it might be, but it would be very difficult to prove...

I also received both PMs. But I ignored both and just went back and deleted them. Obviously spam. Remember curiosity killed the cat! Never click anything that looks suspicious.

I have to say that, this site is exemplary in that new threads that are spam are almost never even replied to.

I too have received these messages. I knew something was up after looking at when these people signed up (like the day of) and the fact they have not posted anything. Suspicious indeed.

Do not go to the links provided by these people!

Is she cute?
I guess I'm not as popular as the rest of you....or maybe I haven't been spammed cause I'm on a Mac.

I have these kinds of spam in my mail but thats what the spam folder and delete button are for.
It is a part of life that is annoying but you just delete it and go on. Soon we shall have the "Don't Spam Me List".
Update:
Now I just got that email WiscoUsonIan. Well I guess it must be some people that are snowed in and need something to do by sending this junk.

I received the following. I was wondering how she knew so much about me...

Hello, my dear friend! You seems to be very attractive and clever. I want to meet you.
You can find me here: http://deleted by me
I'm waiting for you! Bye!

... With spammers like this, who needs real friends.

I have had similar private spam emails and like the previous Wright chatters, I was suspicious and deleted them also.

I received this PM today:

This is not a computer problem. It's a forum problem. I also received the other 2 PM's. I advised the site administrator and have not received a reply.

I got latest PM as well. And I am on a Mac. I really don't see any of this as a huge problem as long as we are all savvy enough to delete and ignore. This seems to happen at most internet boards. I think perhaps a rule could be made by the administrator that would not allow private messages unless one has a certain number of posts. Most boards do not allow links to be posted unless one has at least ten posts, for instance.
