Several months ago SDR volunteered his expertise in response to a post I had about building an entertainment cabinet. Over a year later, here's the finished product with a few minor, on-the-fly revisions.
We've seen many of SDR's drawings on this site but have seen few come to fruition.
Thanks SDR!

Also, here is a link to some current pictures of the house.

Thanks for a beautiful realization, kettle. It's a pleasure to see this addition apparently looking right at home in your handsome house.
I hope it is serving as you had wished.
What did you finish the cypress with, may I ask ?

Very nice! Client and designer working together to achieve an outstanding result. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
Thanks for sharing, and enjoy.

SDR,
On the interior we used an oil urathane satin finish by Zar. It is very durable and could be applied with a sprayer or brush. On the exterior Sikens was used, but the jury is still out on that product. The important part was to not cover up the natural beauty of the cypress

Note lovely sand-plaster ceilings.
I wonder if those tall spaces are costly to heat. . .?

The house is based on the basic Usonion L layout, and probably closest to the Maxwell Smith floorplan. I have to admit much to the consternation of some on this site there was no architect involved. We had a very strong idea on the direction of the house, between the builder and the architectural engineers we came up with the working blueprints.
Architectural Engineer?

kettle7830,
Very nice! It looks to me you used the same cork flooring I did in my home. I'm curious, in the kitchen, did you use the same flooring material for the kick panels under the cabinets?
The entertainment storage solution is wonderful. A successful collaboration indeed.

Cork was used as the only flooring surface throughout the house. And yes I also used it on the kickplates in the kitchen and on top of all of the shelves. At first we were apprehensive about the product but after much research and 1.5 years of living with it there are no regrets. It is quiet, easy underfoot and very easy to keep clean. Besides that it is a natural material.

kettle7830...the cork floor looks wonderful. Did it come in tile form or plank form? Did you use radiant heating under the cork?
Also, could you share w/ us where you purchased the cypress and the cork?
Many thanks,
