Taliesin Legacy Projects thread
Taliesin Legacy Projects thread
Thought it might be good to have a single thread dedicated to all the various Legacy projects out there - pictures, links, discussions, etc. And perhaps we can create a running list tab - similar to what we did for the red signature tiles - with original client name and date, new client name and date, geographic location, etc.
For example:
Ralph Jester (1938) - Palos Verdes, CA / Arthur and Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer (1974) - Scottsdale, AZ
? (1956) / Bob Wright (2002) - Park City, UT - The Wright House
Gilbert Wieland (1959) (a/k/a - Erdman #2) / Marc Coleman (2007) - Greystones, Ireland
D.D. Martin Blue Sky Mausoleum (1928) / Forest Lawn Cemetery (2004) - Buffalo, NY - Blue Sky Mausoleum
Yahara Boat Club (1905) / Fontana Boathouse (2007) - Buffalo, NY - Frank Lloyd Wright's Rowing Boathouse

I've decided to arrange the list in chronological order based upon Wright's plans. As time permits, I hope to be able to further refine the accuracy of the information. Please contribute any knowledge you may have - either here in the thread or in private to me - that can help improve what is already listed, as well as of any homes not yet a part of it. Thank you.

A version of one of Wright's "one-room" Usonian precursors to the Peterson Cottage appears to have been built in Shenanndoah, VA. The article (link below) notes the house was originally designed for a teacher in PA. (I don't have my Monograph handy..it was from the late '40's or early '50's and Wright did a couple of schemes..a hemicycle and the Peterson forerunner).

I traveled to Maui in September and visited the King Kamehameha Golf Club. "Blown-up" doesn't begin to describe it.
As I understand it, this was originally to be a home for Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe in Roxbury, CT. The Club web site mentions a 7,000 sq. ft. home that was to be built here in Fort Worth, Texas? 7,000 sq. ft. seems massive for a Usonian. A gentleman working the pro shop said the planned home to be around 3,600 sq. ft. Any insight for the planned building would be welcomed.
I've posted some pictures here:

Many thanks go to Paul Ringstrom, Jeff Meyers, Education Professor, DRN and Wrightgeek for supplying me w/ very useful information.
From the above list, here is what we are currently missing:
- which one of the five Lansing, MI FLW clients of 1939 was the design for the Berno House (2002) - Clifton, OH
- the original client for the Wayne McBroom Cottage (2004) - Shenanndoah VA
- the original FLW plan date for the Wayne McBroom Cottage (2004) - Shenanndoah VA
- the original client for the Bob Wright House (2002) - Park City, UT
- the original client city location in MI for the Bob Wright House (2002) - Park City, UT
- the original city location in MD for the Gilbert Wieland House (1959)
If anyone has the appropriate Monographs and/or any of the "Unbuilt" books (eg - BBF's, etc.) for any of the above homes and can find the missing information, please let me know.

Thanks to some help from Roderick and Paul, we are now down to:
- the original client for the Wayne McBroom Cottage (2004) - Shenanndoah VA
- the original FLW plan date for the Wayne McBroom Cottage (2004) - Shenanndoah VA
- the original city location in MD for the Gilbert Wieland House (1959)
Oh, and we also need the build years for the Bendheim House - Phoenix, AZ and the Klotsche-Soiero Residence - Santa Fe, NM - each based upon the Lloyd Burlingame "Pottery House" (1942).

I looked up the cottage source for the McBroom (2004) house in Shenanndoah VA in Monograph 7:
Ruth G. Keith Scheme#2 (1947) -Oakland County PA
It would appear in a comparison of the pics of the built McBroom with Wright's presentation drawings for Ruth Keith, the built version is a mirror image of the original design and CMU has been substituted for the brick in the drawings. The built version seems pretty faithful otherwise right down to the band of vertically oriented perfs, and the horizontal mullions at the corner bay of the window wall.

That is, unless there are more Legacy structures out there that haven't made the list yet? (I know of the gas station for the indoor museum in Buffalo, for one. But that has yet to be built).

To add a few additional details: The Berno Legacy Project did use the Newman, 1939 plan with some changes. It was one of several unbuilt designs for a small group of professors in that busy year at Taliesin. However the Berno perf is from the Schuck House designed for South Hadley MA. The Shuck House designs started in 1956 but the building plans they were given were revisions dated '58. The perf in Schuck plan was placed only in the gallery. The Newman House perf, as are most of the Lansing perfs, is very classical with one cut out shape that runs in continuous clerestory bands & also stacked 3 high on the SW & NW sides on the tower. There is also a particularly nice Newman feature of stacked perfs at the entry door. I suspect it looks much more interesting with the Berno's choice of the Schuck perf design than it would have looked with the Newman perf. The Schuck perf had to be elongated to fit the dimensions of that installation and their architect did it proud.
I hope someone can provide information about the Roy Peterson House Legacy for us. Peterson, 1941 has perfs of great interest to me.
