While the country was distracted by a war and other unpleasantries, the centennial of the first big decade of Wright's career slipped by, unremarked.
This year, for instance, is the 100th birthday of the Robie house. We can hope that national attention to Wright's ongoing centenary will commence
forthwith.

Okay a National holiday might be hard to get but maybe every state should recognize April 9th as Wright Remembrance Day. I wonder if the President will say something he is ,of course, from Chicago. I wonder what the media will do. I am in favor of a National Frank Lloyd Wright Remembrance Day but it cannot be a day you get out of school or a federal holiday it will just be a day on the calender that sates that April 9th and June 8th as Wright Remembrance Day.

Thanks, Mark, for posting this information. The Taliesin Preservation website has the proclamation on there, also. It would be nice if the WI news stations commented on it, too (but you never know what their schedules are).
"The building as architecture is born out of the heart of man, permanent consort to the ground, comrade to the trees, true reflection of man in the realm of his own spirit." FLLW, "Two Lectures in Architecture: in the Realm of Ideas".

This is, frankly, of interest to a relatively small number of people. I am a journalist at a daily newspaper, and we do not cover news of proclamations for several reasons.

They are rarely 'news.' They are a symbolic, ceremonial thing, like this one, executed at the behest of someone involved with a given organization or symbolically recognizing a person who might be retiring or receiving some other recognition. Let us come up with a solid story about the person or entity being honored, rather than the symbolic piece of paper. In this vein, Wright in Wisconsin has gotten good press about the Burnham Street project.

There are more and more demands on space and air time. Newspapers have shrinking newsholes. There are many stories we cannot get in to give space to announcements of proclamations. And, if we cover one, why not the plethora of others that come along?

In the same vein, we don't shoot check presentations; if they are that important we show what was bought. We don't cover award presentations; we do a story about the person in the context of why they are being honored. We don't do ground-breakings; we photograph the construction if the project is that important.

I think this is worth a chuckle:

WHEREAS Wright revived the “Prairie architectural style, popular with contemporary designers and home buyers; and

revived???

I do not want to debate the profession here, but the number of news pages is proportionate to advertising. As advertising has fallen off, we have all had to cut the number of pages.

We are still the leading source of news in our area, but a growing number of readers get the news for free on-line.
