Better quality message boards require registering. For example one can look to these web sites: e60.net, e90post.com, timezone.com, thepurists.com. The true identity of the users are concealed on these well functioning boards. These boards are not subject to spamming like this board is. Unfortuantely the spam on this board posted by guests is increasing. There is absolutely no downside to requiring posters to register.

The amount of spam on this list has led me more and more to skip posts from unfamiliar contributors. Henceforth, if you want me to read your message you'd be wise to register and log in. (Some, I know, will find this a positive incentive to stay anonymous.)

To the Board Administrator:

If mandatory registration means no more posts from online casino websites, which have infected these boards like black mold in the Wynant House, then I'm all for it.

I have never quite understood the fury that junk mail causes. I get as much junk snail-mail as anyone, I would guess, but I just throw it out without a glance. I also get all sorts of unsolicited e-mail, which I also discard unread. If ignored long enough, spam disappears.

I get plenty of spam in my AOL, Yahoo and work mail, thanks. There's just this frustrated idealist inside of me who wants something like the FLW board to provide a refuge from the crap floating around in cyberspace.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many cry babies who also like Frank Lloyd Wright. Free speech means you have to take the good with the bad; the insightful posts with the SPAM. If you don't like it, ignore it or start your own website...just stop whining about it.

But seriously folks. How in the heck can registerring for this site limit your free speech? Quite the opposite, it allows your voice to be fully heard. You'll be able to vote in polls like this one and your writings will be easier to find without having to sift through spam.



Mr. Grant also brings up a good question about the spam posts on this web site. The reason why we see so many spam posts on an open forum like this is because it generates traffic for their web site. Even if none of us ever click on one of the links that are posted, the spammers think that having the links show up as many times as possible ups the ratings of their web sites on Google, Yahoo and other search engines. The search engines are getting wise to this, but that doesn't stop the spam postings from happening.



I wouldn't mind seeing this site require registration. I know it would be a pain for some. I think it would bring this group closer together. I've seen a bunch of forums and e-mail groups come and go in the Wright community. This one seems to keep going. It'd be nice to see it prosper and gain more of a sense of community.

Additionally, I don't think everyone who disagrees with me is a cry-baby or a whiner...just the blowhards who do all the whining and crying.



So, please stop going on and on about the same silly stuff, when if you just ignored it and moved on we could all get back to what this site is supposed to be about.



Is it a perfect system? No. Is it an open forum where many, many interesting and insightful things are discussed? Yes. Do we sometimes have to skip over SPAM or the occasional snarky comment? Yes. So enough with the whining about registration and just move on.

Heed your own advice.

If the goal is to make the chat page exclusive for FLLW elitists then make registration required. However if you want new people to become exposed to FLLW and the Conservancy and have their occasional questions answered then keep it open for all!
