What is a good book which would include an analysis of proportional systems used by FLW? Thanks.

One of the best I have read is is by Grant Hildebrand's book, "Wright Space: Pattern and Meaning in Frank Lloyd Wright's Houses"

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... s&n=507846

along with Neil Levin'e definitive book, "The Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright"

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books

Hope this helps.

Joseph Siry's book on Unity Temple goes into detail for this one building, about both how the building follows the grid and how it departs from it.

The Davenport House uses the following proportions repeatedly. Unity Temple does the same.

1. Square. It all starts here. 1:1

2. Golden Section. 1.6180:1

3. Residual Rectangle created by removing a golden section from a square. 2.62:1

4. Rectangle, Half of a Square. 2:1

5. Rectangle, Third of a Square. 3:1

6. Rectangle, Three-fourths of a Square. 4:3

7. Rectangle, 0ne-fourth of a Square. 4:1

I have reviewed Hildebrand's book and I did not find anything on FLW's proportional system. I have yet to search through Neil Levine's book. I am still looking for a good analysis of FLW's preferred proportions. Please continue to post suggested sources.

Between Form and Principle by Laseau and Tice is about plan types (they claim that most of Wright's buildings grow from a small stock of them) rather than proportional systems, but it might feed into your interest.

Sargent's book on the Usonian houses goes into detail on proportional grid systems in the later designs.
