FYI: Current Magazine articles

Post by Paul Ringstrom »

The Aug/Sept 2007 issue of Midwest Home Chicago has an article on the Hills-Decaro House in Oak Park, IL.

The Fall 2007 issue of American Bungalow has an article on the John Christian House (Samara) in West Lafayett, IN.

Thanks for bring those to our attention, Paul.

I have the current American Bungalow magazine with the article on SAMARA. In fact, it has led me to make reservations for my wife and I to pay Dr. Christian a visit a few weeks from now.

BTW - is anyone familiar with the book that was published a few years back on SAMARA, titled "Frank Lloyd Wright's SAMARA:
Winged Seeds of Indiana", by Wallace J. Rogers?

An interesting article at CNN news: http://www.cnn.com/2007/TRAVEL/getaways ... index.html
(although those current construction cost estimates strike me as way too low)

After many attempts I was able to obtain a copy of the W.J Rodgers
book on Samara. It was well worth the effort. A very personal and
detailed account of planning, construction and working with FLW. The ongoing quest to complete all the features of the design, ( I beleive it was just within the past few years that the Stunning copper facia was installed.) A mini gem of a book.

Thanks, Bill. I ended up speaking w/ Dr. Christian and he said that he will have copies of the book for sale when my wife and I visit there. I am really looking forward to both the tour and the book.

You are correct it is American Bungalow not Style 1900. Sorry for the misdirection.

The photographs in the Bungalow article are great; much better than in the book. The more I see of Samara, the better I like it.

A recent edition of New York Magazine has an article and several pictures of the Chahroudi home recently built on Lake Mahopac which has generated so much controversy here. I'm sorry I can't cite the date, but the magazine seems to have vanished!

The photos are interesting, and bear more resemblance to the pictures I've seen of the cottage than expected. Posters' reactions should be interesting!
