Hugo strikes again ! This is a most unusual late Wright house with which I was entirely unfamiliar. I see that Avila Arquitectos credits the model to one person, the "visualizations" to Hugo himself---that would be all the colors and textures, the landscape and furnishings, the moving elements. (Would those blazing fireplaces make more sense in a winter setting ? Hugo, have you done a snowscape yet ? Your rampant greenery, unique in the field, would have to be replaced by winter's spare palette and bare limbs . . . I suppose. Another challenge ?)
Bravo. We're so glad you persevere with these time-consuming and revelatory artistic and architectural exercises.
One wonders which apprentice took Wright's sketch and fitted it to the land and the client---with perhaps some sore spots and surprises along the way ?

I enjoy seeing the unbuilt designs portrayed in these videos…It’s interesting to see the “walkthrough” and to see the similarities and differences between the subject unbuilt and a more familiar built project. The Stillman house has moments of Llewellyn Wright, Rayward, and Tonkens, but it still is its own unique composition.

All of the fireplaces huffing and puffing like mad on a sunny summer's day?
At 3:13-3:18 there is a grand staircase, 8' wide, in an Italian style the likes of which I have never seen in a FLW house, built or not! Very impressive, Hugo!

Spectacular. Took me a little while to sort something out....the scheme Hugo modeled is Scheme 2 per Taschen, and of course no issue whether by choice or not. There were two variations of Scheme 1. The original submission consisted of a typical linear gallery with four bedrooms, each with a bathroom, and master at the end. This is illustrated in both plan and rendering.
A few days after submission Wright did a revision, per the clients request, and created four individual suites in addition to the master. This was to provide sitting areas and access to the outside from both the bedrooms as well as a long loggia in lieu of the gallery. This scheme is depicted in plan alone.
The interesting thing is that Scheme 2 is as different from both Scheme 1's as they are to one another. The master suite is located at the other end of the house, taking the place of the carport, which became a second structure per Hugo's model. One bedroom suite is adjacent to the living area and then a gallery returns terminating in two suites, one of which is perpendicular to the gallery. Buried between the two is a small bedroom, sans suite, for whatever reason. All schemes provide five bedrooms but in wildly different arrangements. As an unbuilt project, Scheme 2 most likely resulted from that common issue of cost related to both Scheme 1's.
Wonderful model, as usual, and without criticism just wondering if Wright might have called for a tad more tint to the blocks, and a slight less intensity to the slab...
