It is gratifying to know that an owner of a FLW house is able and willing to take on such a task and to understand that her role in the experience is as a steward, not an owner. Brava, Ms Lotti!

Wow---two exciting new interior photos. I have yet to learn if the unusual ceiling trim in the house was in any way designed to conceal/reveal an electrical conduit.

What in the world is that on the floor of the entry (?) . . . mimicking or relating to some basket-weave brick paving?

800k fail? I continue to be amazed at all of the criticism and lies the climate deniers use to downplay admirable efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon. So what if it didn't achieve net zero? It greatly reduced energy consumption FOREVER with sustainable energy sources. The article also infers that Wright was somehow responsible? Comes off as another right-wing lunatic using FLW to supposedly "advance" his career.

Sad, isn't it ? Those on the wrong side of history, now shown to be more that willing to lie through their teeth to get what they want, have only one recourse when shown the error of their ways: double down. (And why haven't we heard the phrase "sore loser," these days ? A perfectly apt phrase, not too long ago---forgotten ?)

John, can you satisfy my curiosity about that unique ceiling array at Balch ? Could Wright have conceived of it as a representation of---if not an actual---electrical circuit ? One thinks of the later Jacobs I ceiling fixture . . .

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but the trim on the ceiling of the Balch House all "resolves itself" by, at some point, wrapping down to meet the picture rail. Never really thought of it as a cover for wiring.

Thanks; that is what I was wondering about. The fact that it connects to a potential source of input strengthens the supposition . . . but it may be only a figurative "circuit" and not an actual one.

Are there are a lot of right wingers attacking Wright to advance their careers?

When it comes to criticism, folks seem to forget $ are relative to the person spending the money. $800k would be a lot to me. I have a relative who was successful in business. $800k wouldn’t move his emotional needle.

Private property means this lady get to spend her money as she sees fit. To sit in judgement of her - that’s being a busybody.

The house is lovely. From an architectural perspective - kudos to the owner on a thoughtfully executed project.
