Apparently not signed; is price reflective of current values with or without?

I'm wondering now if the use of red ink or (in these cases) red colored pencil, an historic drafting convention, might have been intended to provide a better "black" in poché work as reproduced by one or more of the typical copying media in use during the Twentieth Century in architecture and engineering offices.

Red as a second color in typography and graphic design has a long history; could this use, in reproducible technical drawings, have a specific purpose beyond the aesthetic ?
