Taliesin 1 Interiors
Re: Taliesin 1 Interiors
That's great, Jim---so useful to the understanding of this first Taliesin, which I think we revere. The roof-removed overhead views do a great deal to clarify the layout and the fitments of these spaces.
One begins to see areas that Mr Wright may later have considered needing of improvement: the view from the dining end of the living room reveals a far wall that seems to want . . . something more---which it eventually received, in later iterations of the house. The same goes for the wall and ceiling against which the dining table stands; it was raised and flattened in subsequent re-buildings, making it richer and roomier while not really expanding the footprint at all.

These are wonderful Jim! A great illustration of Taliesin 1's interior spaces- elusive as they are. Comparing these to the few photos we have shows you've done a great job translating!
Think we'll get any looks at the farming wing interiors?

Heh. I'd love to know the source of that signature quote, UOGH . . .!

Sadly it is not Wrightian in origin, but something a cartoonist colleague of mine wrote once, and I feel it is extremely apt for the creative work of architects and architecture.

Heh. And indeed, creative work of all kinds . . .?
I have to say it's one of life's unalloyed pleasures: standing back when it's done and finished, and taking it in. Any designer/maker knows the feeling . . .

Thanks...the balance of the farm wing interiors appear to be simple spaces per the first Taliesin plans, but I haven't seen a single published image. I only included the stable behind the apartment assuming it most likely was just an open area! Available exterior images indicate some areas and their uses were already altered by 1912 (my "year of significance").UpOnGoblinHill wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 4:53 pm These are wonderful Jim! I've tried to do the least speculative interpretations. Actually, the farm wing interiors by function are probably not very interesting spaces anyway-at least without knowing what alterations looked like. The hayloft is interesting since rather than solid exterior walls, it mostly consisted of horizontal boards spaced apart; assume for ventilation.

Great work Jim. My appreciation for T1 deepens.
