The Graycliff Conservancy was successful in bidding at a Toomey & Co. Auction for a cypress bench that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for Mrs. Martin. The bench was designed to occupy part of the entry hall at Graycliff. Wright's letter to the Martin's note that the piece was designed on August 9th, 1929 and that the drawing would be mailed to the Martin's the following day. The bench was sold by prior owners of the house in 1995 and was in Colorado for many years. It is one of the largest pieces designed by Wright for the house and the most substantial original piece the Conservancy has been able to acquire.
The Graycliff Conservancy has been tracking this piece (as it does for over a dozen other Wright designed furniture items for the house) since 1996. The piece will be on display during normal Graycliff tours beginning April 2nd, 2023.

Bravo, and well done. I doubt that many of us were aware of the existence of this piece. A "fresh" Wright design is always a welcome sight . . .!
