The elevator wasn't the only invention that made the skyscraper feasible. Electricity, telephone, tickertape, central heating and indoor plumbing also played a role.

The Wainwright Building is considered to be one of the first aesthetically fully expressed early skyscrapers.

Paul, from the beginning, skyscrapers accommodated financial services which relied heavily on the new invention of the tickertape machine, without which Wall Street would have had trouble functioning in the twentieth century. An invaluable communications device like the telephone. Also, how could New Yorkers have made a fuss over Charles Lindburgh?
