YIKES!! Lykes
The Lykes House @ 6836 North 36th Street in Phoenix is on the street where a house on 36th Street near Lincoln Drive exploded on Saturday. Does anyone know how close Lykes is to Lincoln?
Re: YIKES!! Lykes
Never measured the distance, but it's probably at least a quarter mile north .... Lykes, on its high ground, must have had a good view.

The John Rattenbury house on 36th Street is MUCH closer to Lincoln Drive. See:

Re: YIKES!! Lykes
Rattenbury house = 6636 N 36th St, Phoenix, AZ 85018
House that blew up = 6738 N 36th St, Phoenix, AZ 85018
Lykes House = 6836 N 36th St, Phoenix, AZ 85018
So, it falls in between the two homes. Lykes is 2 properties above. Rattenbury is 2 properties below.

Has a Wright house ever blown up? Is that something we can credit the master, like the Imperial Hotel surviving the earthquake? Okay, sure the roofs might leak a bit...but they don't explode!
Re: YIKES!! Lykes
When the Pearces in California hosted a tour, Mr. P (son of the original client) explained that the house had exploded at least once. The very steep canyons, in windstorms, set up vacuums outside that blew the glass panels out.
The original plan had put a fireplace on the wall in question. The elder Pearces got Wright to move the fireplace to an interior wall so that they could have an unobstructed canyon view.
