RMS on the market

One of Schindler's last designs, the Samuel Skolnik House, is up for sale at $4M (2357 sf). Relatively untouched (although it looks like the whole building was emersed in a vat of bleach), the first alteration in 1962, a pool and cabana, was designed by Gregory Ain, and an adjustment to the master bedroom in 1986 was done by David Serrurier, a very fine architect. The house sits just west of Ennis, with all the same views, which accounts for a certain amount of the value.

Contemporary to Skolnik is RMS's Adolph Tischler House, up for sale at $1.7M (1271 sf). This house appears to be in mint condition. It looks a bit odd in photos, but the interiors are splendid.

Many photos @ Realtor.com.

I walked past a doghouse on the market for less than a million (12 sf); it didn't have a view.

Did someone paint the Tischler fireplace hood white? Hard to tell from the photos but it appears so. Why?

Craig, I think not. The photography is not very good, as is often the case with real estate ads, but, while it looks white, I think it is the original metal.

I hope that is the case. There has been a great deal of "whitewashing" done to the place so perhaps the steel hood is reflecting the walls. It is great to see the translucent panels restored. They must have found a method to reduce the glare and heat of the original and thus removed the plywood ceiling covers Tischler later installed.
