Re: Video: Top 5 Lost & Found Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings!
Was the Imperial Hotel "sinking into the mud below it " before being demolished ?
No, Wright's building was not a "redesign" of the earlier hotel.
The photos of the Francis Apartments are a find; I haven't seen most of these before.
Steffens pronounced as "Stevens" ? Hmm . . .
What do we know about the McQuillen ASBH ? Nick ?

It is said that a subway was constructed beneath the Imperial Hotel, which eventually drained water from the mud below the hotel,(actually an infill of a portion of Tokyo Bay ...). This upset the delicate balance between the building and its foundation, leading to the uneven subsidence of portions of the structure.
As for the Pauson House .... until fairly recently the only remaining part of the house was the bedroom fireplace, which had been constructed of rubble stone and concrete, Prior to the site being bulldozed for the extension of a street running north and south, the bedroom fireplace mass was moved out of the way. That remaining fireplace mass eventually collapsed ... all of its own accord.

As for errors in the video, the Steffens House plan shown is actually the Evans plan.

The McQuillen ASBH is an AA202, sometimes call the "AB Groves House," named for the speculating builder who erected it in 1917. The former owner, Linda McQuillen, told us that it did not initially sell and was a rental for many years. It is not clear when or how its pedigree was lost. Evidence gathered by Hamilton included scraps of Byrkit found in the attic, among other elements. It did not have a fireplace originally and one was added to the West wall. The outdoor porch was enlarged to become an elegant library and the house was nearly doubled in size with a tasteful two story back addition. The new owners are sensitive to the history and very private, but are in close contact with other ASB owners/stewards on questions of maintenance and upgrades.

Thanks, Nick. Most interesting. The ASBH story continues to flower, in no small part due to your investigations and reports.
