Kappe's work is consistently excellent. It is also hard to understand spatially through photographs alone. Kappe deserves an in-depth analysis, chockfull of drawings.

Indeed. I'd love to see section drawings of his own house in Rustic Canyon. Perhaps they're out there somewhere . . .?

A late Kappe comes on the market in Venice.

"Homage to a Rectangle" ? Check out the glass floor panels inserted into a stairwell. And, instead of piano hinges, Soss concealed hinges. Quietly deluxe . . .

Always found it interesting that as an architect and founder, Kappe's aesthetic was at such odds with the mostly pretentious architectural menagerie of SCI-Arc...

I was fortunate enough to visit Ray Kappe at his own home. After touring I remember telling him he was genius. Photos and section drawings do not come close to explaining his designs. Ray thinks in 3D and his designs show it.
