Frank Lloyd Wright Quintin Blair House

Post by MOman2 »

I will possibly be near the Frank Lloyd Wright Quintin Blair House and am wondering if one can drive down Blair road (see attached pic) to see the front of the home. Thank You Image

The 'road' is actually a driveway with a gate across at the highway. Google Maps cannot enter, so I doubt you can drive up the road without an invitation.

The aerial view shows that the house has been vastly enlarged.

I've been by where the house is. Unfortunately, you cannot see it at all unless you drive down the driveway, and that would be technically trespassing. I would try to contact the owner by whatever means you can and try to arrange a visit. Many, but not all, Wright homeowners are generous with showing their houses.

W A Storrer provides basic information on the house, in an unusual double spread in his 1993 "Frank Lloyd Wright Companion" which includes four construction photos. Mention of a butterfly roof is a surprising "typo" ?

Maybe it's a single-winged butterfly.

Along the NW façade, from carport to entry, a very large addition has been built. To the SW is another addition. In all, it looks like the house has been enlarged to 3 times its original size.

My sister and I visited the house many years ago, so I don't know anything about a more recent addition. However, when we were there, Mrs. Blair said that they had commissioned an addition by Bruce Goff. She kindly showed me the drawings, which were a shock .... Two stories high ... oppressive, and way out of scale.

At the first opportunity I informed Johnny ... de Koven Hill. I don't know how he did it, but he managed to put a stop to that addition.

Another nice little one bedroom house. I didn't know much about it before but will add it to my list of small gems.
