Kalamazoo House: Wright or Not?

Post by SWSinDC »

There is a listing for a house on Taliesin Drive in Kalamazoo that purports to be FLLW-designed, and certainly looks the part, but does not appear to be one of the four Parkwyn houses:

Any clues on its pedigree?

this is not The Brown, McCartney, Levin, or Winn house. Those are the 4 in Parkwyn Village.

And then there's also the Ward Greiner house, 2617 Taliesin Drive, 1951, originally designed by Wright, but not quite built as such, because "Wright wouldn't compromise" as mrs Greiner said to me, years ago. The house looks more like a swiss chalet, less Wrightian than the listed property.

I live in Kalamazoo & go through Parkwyn Village almost 3 times a week. The house in question in very Wrightian in nature, but not one of "The Four". You must know that there are a few houses in Parkwyn that are Wrightian in nature, as that is the basis of the development.

The house is quite lovely, esp in that setting & priced about $50G less than a "true" Wright design.
