I am of Swedish extraction and I have heard that name growing up. I always thought it was a funny version of Scandinavian. I was not offended. The only people whiter than the Sweds are the Irish.

True, Swedes are whiter than white, more so than Norwegians. I am 75% Norwegian and 25% Swede. I get a tan in the summer sun; Swedes just turn red.

Getting back to the original subject of Joe Eichler's social equity lens, Jim San Jule, Eichler's marketing manager, told me this story: In one of their projects, after they had sold a house to an African American family, another client who had purchased a home in the neighborhood went to Joe and demanded he rescind the contract with the African American family. Joe said to the complaining white customer something like: "i am cancelling your contract. I don't want people like you living in one of my homes."
