For those Gehry-phobes among us (I'm on the fence, at best), here's evidence of what goes on under those extravagant skins:

Is this any way to build ? Suppressing evidence of structure is one thing; this is more like sweeping the mess under the rug and pretending nothing happened . . .

Gehry jettisoned the principles of modernism long ago.
I can appreciate his work but the experience I've had of being around and in his buildings wears thin.
How many times during the day can you listen to "Twist and Shout"?
(I've never been to the Disney Hall, but what I've seen strikes me as really good)
Yet these present shots that SDR posts
All that jumble of solid steel
I don't agree with it.

The doo-dads are clip mountings for the facade material.
I can only imagine the legal nightmares these projects must cause.
Hard to believe that any contractor could rationally manage it.
Just throw money...

All those gymnastics for a skin...are artfully composed spaces created within the building because of this? Gehry's needlessly complex façade structures are proof that just because one can do something doesn't mean he necessarily should.

It is hard to imagine that this building would be able to be insulated properly to become energy efficient. An energy efficient structure should contain an uninterrupted/continuous insulated envelope/shell, the exception being the necessary addition of windows and doors.

The thing I like about Frank Gehry's work is, it makes the output of, say, Peter Eisenman or Robert A M Stern or even Philip Johnson seem like actual architecture !
Kinda brings the West Coast into disrepute, doesn't it. Thank heaven we have so many reputable progressive architects to our credit . . .
