Source for retro lighting fixtures/forums with info?

Post by Wrighter »

Hi all,

Have any of you had good luck with particular sources when looking for period lighting fixtures? Either a particular salvage store, or rehab/mid-century design forums with good information when searching for a particular fixture? We are looking for a Prescolite satin brass swivel cone (model s44) with a square base, and my google karma is failing me.

Thanks,
Wrighter

This is probably not what you're searching for, but it would be perfect for any Usonian in need of wall lights:

You can go to 1st dibs and set up an alert to let you know when someone has it for sale. Too bad about their inflated prices, though...

I found quite a few doing an eBay search "Prescolite cone"
None exactly the model you need, but a lot of usable while you still look for under $30. The square mounting base is the needle in the haystack it looks like.

There are a lot of ads for vintage fixtures in Atomic Ranch magazine.
You might get a copy and make some calls.

Also, I would suggest giving a look around the Retro Renovation website

We get a catalog at the office called "Rejuvenation" which sells new products with a retro look of various periods. Not for purists, but the fixtures work for new applications where the look is needed with multiple fixtures (often hard to find multiples of the same vintage anything in consistent condition when you need them).

Many thanks all! I will look into all these suggestions. Yes, it's the square base that is the problem. Round bases abound but the square has eluded me. If we become desperate, there are a couple of spots where the base is largely hidden from view--like in the utility room. We may be able to harvest that fixture to replace the damaged one, and put a round base in the less visible spot. But I will do some more digging in the places suggested first.

Thanks for the help--
