The only minus is that it has a grand view of the Hollywood Freeway at Universal City.

I've always liked the way Harris uses single lite doors mixed with multi lite. It breaks up, relaxes and syncopates the rhythm of the horizontal lines.

Is that a small funicular railway?

If anyone goes to the open house, I'd love to find out if the funicular is for personnel or just for cargo?

Hmm. Isn't there one at Lautner's Chemoshpere house-on-a-stilt ? Same question; I believe that one carries people. Or not ?

Yes, Chemosphere had one for passengers, too. There is a duplex house (the Dodge house) near the HH Harris Blair house which was originally a craftsman hunting cabin, later remodeled by Schindler and Gregory Ain, each of them responsible for one of the two units. It also had a small funicular, used only for groceries and supplies. Ain lived in his unit.

Thanks. I'm not clear on which unit is shown, Ain's or Schindler's . . .

Both are shown in the photographs. The room with the thick carpeting, wood ceilings and room divider is Schindler. The room with the white ceiling, Ain's. When I saw the place, the Schindler half was sloping severely; the original foundation holding it up must have settled over time. Ain got the better half. His showed few signs of problems.

Aha. So "This new listing . . ." has a double meaning.

I went to the open house. The house has been sensitively updated with a new kitchen and flooring. It is lovely. It's a small house with each floor rising up to follow the hillside. The studio is on the top floor and it's a particulary special aerie with an entire sliding wall of windows on one side opening to a patio and a row of clerestories on the other. It's quite wooded so I didn't notice or hear the freeway.

It's a steep and long climb up to the house so yes, the funicular does carry people. It's been covered in wood siding similar to the house, a nice touch.
