St. Michael's Episcopal Church by apprentice, Neil Schweizer

Post by Paul Ringstrom »

FTA: Gainesville's Historic Preservation Board unanimously voted to nominate St. Michael's as a local landmark. But the Episcopal Diocese of Florida delayed a public hearing on the designation, then demolished the property a week before the rescheduled hearing.

Ouch. What did Mr Wright say about entrusting architecture to clergy ? In this case, bald-faced dishonesty---and little "faith" in one's fellow citizens---seem to be the symptoms . . .

That said, I'd have to see the building at its best, to render judgement. One can sympathize with the skeptics about this example of "Brutalism in wood" ?

Schweizer's work is heavy-handed. No loss here.
