Below are some photos of an article in Architectural Forum from August 1948 regarding a Usonian house that Mr. Tafel designed for his parents in Westchester, NY. http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh301/educationprofessor/Edgar%20Tafel/ff2571d1-fb61-4ac4-8a89-64c8a2fb028c_zpsac03d653.jpg http://i259...

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful info. I believe I will be able to access the Avery Index at Vanderbilt Univ. during my next trip to Nashville. Whatever happened to Tafel's NYC apartment? I hope the new owner(s) kept it largely intact (if possible), including the brass sign to Mr. Tafel's office. h...

Edgar Tafel: Post-Taliesin Work

I'm trying to locate published material regarding Edgar Tafel's post-Taliesin residential design work. Any recommendations? So far, I've located an article about the New York apartment renovation in the September 1954 edition of House Beautiful. I've also located an article in Architectural Forum fr...

Great photos. Is that a storage building to the left in photo 1? Is it a post-Wright structure?

Thanks, peterm. It is an unusual feature in the Usonians as Wright typically tried to hide structural beams (no posts, etc.).

Do you happen to recall the approximate square footage? Is it smaller than Lamberson?

What is the square footage of Alsop?

Also, are the beams under the light deck in the sitting area of the living room structural or merely decorative? They seem rather out of character to me:

I seem to recall that some abstract compositions by Ling Po were featured in one of Frances Nemtin's books (perhaps FLLW and Taliesin?).

Below is a link to additional photos of the Shoptaugh house which was originally known as the Hicks house. I'm sure the floor plan is quite interesting with the interlocking triangles.

The Hughes/Van Tamelen house/guest house and the original Bartholomew house are both wonderful designs. The Shoptaugh house in Oakland is a wonderful design as well. Has this house (or either of the two houses above) been featured in House Beautiful or other publications? Shoptaugh appears to be in ...

Aaron Green Info

I came across a wonderful article earlier this evening about Mr. Green's work and career: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/SIGNATURE-STYLE-Aaron-Green-Getting-it-Wright-2694208.php I also came across this very simple yet peaceful and "zen-like" guest house by Mr. Green: http://www.gog...

There is also a nice stained glass piece in one of the bathrooms. Dahlstrand has a keen eye for detail.

Yes indeed, SDR....your early evening setup sounds perfect!

It would seem that the cedar/redwood shingles would be relatively maintenance-free for the most part except for the occasional hose/broom.

I agree that the house seems to a rather conventional design which was modified by Dahlstrand.

The distinction btw shakes and shingles makes good sense, and I agree that the Dahlstrand residence uses shingles (perhaps of Redwood?). The shingles appear to be in very good shape. Do they involve a great deal of maintenance? Good eye on the piano hinge. It seems that Dahlstrand took a rather conv...
