Davenport House Update

This past week we completed an incredibly challenging task. We completed the framing of the roof plane that extends down the sides of the house from the second floor roof to top of the restored first floor octaginal bay at the fron of the house. The framing of this is a technical tour de force. It i...

I like Jones. But certainly not as good as Mr. Wright. They all keep trying.....but none can pull it off! E. Fay Jones pulled it off at Thorncrown Chapel. With the sole exception of Unity Temple, E. Fay Jone's Thorncrown Chapel exceeds every place of worship by Wright in my opinion. Thorncrown Chap...

Beautiful home! I always enjoy looking up houses mentioned in these posts in Storrer's FLW Companion. For what it is worth the kitchen in the article photo and pass through in a book photograph do not match the floor plan in the book. It looks to this casual observer that the kitchen plan in the boo...

Without seeing the existing conditions, it is impossible to recommend the optimal solution. Below grade concrete block is problematic unless a membrane waterproffing is used. Any other type of waterproofing does not offer long term durability. If one installs membrane waterproofing it is also genera...

Is this concrete block wall exposed to the exterior? And if so what is it exposed to? Is this wall above grade or below grade?

Many Masks

Personally I did not find Many Masks disturbing. I have lived in Oak Park for 26 years. FLW's personal fiscal irresponsibility and affairs are legendary in Oak Park. I have heard stories from the children and/or grandchildren of business owners about FLW stiffing their parent or grand parent busine...

Would an unbuilt FLLW prairie house constructed among its contemporaries in Oak Park or Mason City be unfit? Clearly the answer is yes it would be unfit. Actually it would be outrageous. It implies a Disneyland approach to architecture and historic preservation. Frank Lloyd Wright's Legacy needs to...

"Seems very elitist not to give another a chance to enjoy living in a Wright design, especially if that person already has the privledge to live in one themselves". A chance to live in a "Wright design" is in itself commendable. At its essence the critical issue of any "leg...

FLW's legacy and American Architecture are not well served by legacy building projects such as Monona Terrace, which is mediocre.

What is the source of this information? Is the property listed? Or is this a rumor?

Better Value

A much better value and house would be the Coonley Residence with all 3 components for $2.4 million.

I hope that they get $5.75 million. What are the odds of getting anything over $5 million in my opinion? Zero percent. My guestimate is $3 to $4 million tops is a realistic sales price range.
