Based upon an internet search, it appears that the house did not sell. This is just conjecture based upon the lack of information about a sale. One could always call Inland Real Estate in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Wright and Neutra

Wright is my favorite architect. But it was Neutra who captured the California experience. In many ways, he applied Wright's own ideas better than Wright... in California only. My opinion is this. Louis Sullivan borrowed some conceptual thinking from Frank Furness and advanced these ideas. Frank LL...

Re: Biltmore

Is FLW the Biltmore architect? Or not? Or was a "helper"? Thank you. He was not the architect. He was hired as a technical consultant on the fabrication of textile type block. He may have contributed to the design, but that does not make him the architect. That was me. I forgot to log in....

Examples of Recessed Floors in FLW Living Room Spaces

Are there any examples of FLW living rooms or partial living room spaces with floors that are recessed and accessed by continuous steps?

As of today it had not sold. It is a beautiful home in excellent condition on a spectacular site. It is on the edge of a deep, broad, forested, picturesque ravine.

In my opinion, the best strategy is to go to highest quality college or university that she get into and afford. Get an undergraduate degree in something that she finds meaningful. This may be a Bachelor Science Degree in Architecture. This is not a professional degree for purposes of professional r...

1. True, but Wright was perhaps too far ahead of his time with technology, and many of his clients had to pay for it (both figuratively and literally). Some suffered along as the price you pay for having the master design your home. Others were put off entirely. One day we'll have to compile some s...

Travel Suggestions My son lives in LA and my college roommate lives in LA so I go there frequently. In addition I was on the wonderful FLW Conservancy Tours of LA and Palm Springs. I highly recommend using a GPS Navigation System . If need be rent a Hertz Car with this option. The road network is n...

I, for one, believe it is you (and the Frank Lloyd Wright Elite) who is missing out on the complete FLLW picture by glossing over his many shortcomings as a builder, businessman, father, and husband. To consider FLLW without looking at these things is not being honest to yourself or your subject. M...

Davenport House Restoration Update

Davenport House Restoration What a great day. Today the carpenters finished the roof sheathing on the new restored 1901 FLW roof extension and bay. With the plywood cladding of the new 1901 restored bay one can see the incredible beauty of FLW's original 1901 design. It is absolutely striking. The ...

Monograph Slip Cases, 1901 Ladies Home Journal, Davenport

FLW Monograph This week I purchased 9 slipcases for my 12 volume set of the FLW Monograph on Ebay for $150. I have no idea as where I will get the other slipcases. I also need the dust jackets. I also purchased a bound volume of the 1901 Ladies Home Journal Magazines without the covers. I intend to...

I would suggest also contacting the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. They may know something about the firm or its principals.

You may have a knockoff done by an unrecognized architectural firm that were not former apprentices, but simply admirers of Wright's architecture.

Doug: I would suggest that permanent painting only be done as a last resort. Original finishes, as you stated, have a beautiful patina. In an ideal world you would touch up your finish so that it fixes that which is problemmatic for you, with a product that is reversable. Email me and I will be happ...

Excellent New Book Which Analyzes FLW's Creative Process

I am fascinated by analysis of patterns in FLW's work which lead to an understanding of FLW's complex creative process . An absolutely wonderful, just published, book on this topic arrived today in my office. It is On and By Frank Lloyd Wright: A Primer of Architectural Principals editted by Robert ...
