Joke's on you...a BUNCH of pages missing. HA HA HA Correct. There are pages missing, including the real cover of the magazine and the Fallingwater fold out photograph by Hedrich Blessing. This is a great publication of FLW's work and is highly recommended. Basically FLW was the editor of this issue...

Jeanette and Ellis Fields were great stewards of the Davenport House. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Ellis, but everyone spoke highly of him. The restoration that we are doing would not be possible without the great stewardship of Jeanette and Ellis. They were awesome in their preservation o...

In the photograph of the Drummond Living Room, in the brick fireplace has natural lime mortar in the horizontal bed joints. The vertical head joints have colored mortar. This yields the beautiful horizontal lines in brick of the fireplace. The Davenport House originally had this same detail. We are ...

....In its mastery of vertical forms and its surrender to the drama of the old quarry face of Rock Crest, the Melson house was far ahead of anything that Wright was contemplating at the time. It heralded a new era in American domestic architecture and predated the Kaufmann house (Fallingwater) - Wr...

Peter, the more I see of Lamberson, the more I am amazed at what a great deal that you got on the purchase. Given the price, the condition of the house at purchase, the size, the inherent high quality of a FLW home of that period, and the replication cost of what you have, you far and away got the b...

Peter, when you do that 2 things are key. One is to get a fine brick match. Two. Tuckpoint the entire wall where the brick is infilled. One doesn't need to do walls behind the wall being patched. If done right the results will be outstanding. Tuck pointing on historic structures is always tough. The...

Great house, Peter. Thank you for posting the photographs. It is one of my favorites of that period. Is the wood guardrail, tucked into the masonry partial height wall at the terrace, original to the house? It doesn't look like it. However sometimes Owners prevail on an architect, even FLW, to do go...

Davenport House Restoration Update 3.12.10

We are resuming restoration activities on the Davenport House. The project was on hold after I was hit by a car while riding my bike on July 5 2009, and I was unable to work for 8 months with my injuries and subsequent operation. It feels great to be back to work at the office and to continue on wit...

I received my copy two days ago. This enormous, amazing volume is exceedingly well done with a combination of insightful, thought provoking narrative text, great photography and amazing drawings. A lot of FLW books tend to be picture books with rudimentary text geared to neophyte FLW Enthusiasts. No...

November 1960 was the closely contested election between Nixon and Kennedy... In that election, which I am old enough to remember, the Republicans put out the line "If John Kennedy is elected President, the Pope will tell him what to do." I was 9 years old at the time and I can remember m...
