I would say that that simply sums up exactly how I feel about Wright's Usonians.
Given Wright's long life and body of work, not every design will appeal to everyone. Isn't the word "grotesque" just a wee bit strong? You really don't see any beauty in this work?

This will blur the boundary even more between inside and outside and make quite a long bench
Love it. Just love it. The house couldn't be in better hands.

Peter,

What a delight your house is becoming! Spending a week scraping grout? You two sure know how to kick back and enjoy a holiday.

The floors look fantastic. It's always nice for some owners to cover original flooring with carpet in order to protect it for those who can later enjoy it.

"Olga had done nothing even touching on any of the arts before running into FLW at the ballet." It's my understanding that Olgivanna appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York (among other American venues) in staged performances of the Gurdjieff dances in 1924. Not bad for someone with no expe...

Craig, Is this the one you're talking about? Yes, but be advised that they aren't the largest drawings. This is the second edition. I remember when I bought the hardcover way back when it was $100 - the most I had ever paid for a book at that point. Now the softcover is TWICE that price! But I digr...

There are plans and sections of Segel and Beyer in the first Escher book on Lautner (1994).

Yes, the entry walk was installed by the current owner. It takes you down from the carport to the house. Quite nicely done.

Owners of the Connecticut house are friends of mine. They are not flippers. They bought the house and live there and have done incredible work in restoring the house (including the unglamorous kind which which never shows in photographs). They are considering a move to another part of the state. Thi...

I thought it was well documented that Wright did not design the Ennis windows. Aren't there drawings in the files of the simple, rectilinear windows intended for Ennis? The marble floors, the elaborate metalwork, the magic lantern light fixtures are so out of place in Wright's work and surely came f...

No, not evil or gay but... AN ADULTEROUS ARCHITECT!

Actually, there are some really great exterior shots in the movie. The interior scenes were obviously not filmed in the house but the set that was designed to stand in is pretty cool too.

I think we are talking about viruatally rebuilding this house. The stonework is probably the only part which isn't rotting away. I saw the place years ago and I can't recall is the garage is even standing. Would love to see Marmol Radziner get the job for this. They have worked wonders on historic h...

In a book I'm reading about the Larkin Building, FLW claims the architecture of the building to be so distinctively American that only our own flag would look appropriate hanging on it.

Perhaps the Black Forrest should stick to ham.
