Nice house. A good example of organic architecture, from an original who actually respected Wright without stooping to imitation and regurgitation.

I just hope Jones didn't have to suffer the trashy and uncomplementary furnishings currently in situ!

The last full set I personally saw was on the top shelf of an architectural book store in downtown Seattle (don't have the name at hand) 2 years ago-they may still be there since I saw them a few years before that. They were asking about $4k, a bit higher than my eBay victory of $2.2k (still a good ...

"This guy" is a long time admirer of Wright who does not feel under the gun to walk lockstep with sycophants or shy from having critical opinions. All of Wrights work should be conserved and considered the art of a master (very little architecture even qualifies as "art"). I have...

The "developments" you refer to would be the Galesburg Country Home Acres, 1947, Parkwyn Village about the same time (both projects were for the same group of people, but some had differing views on the long, long commute to Kalamazoo 10 miles away), and Usonia Homes also in 1947 at Pleasa...

Ebay Monograph

Found it interesting to watch one volume go in two minutes from under $80 to almost $300.

Apparently still a good investment.

Zimmerman is indeed a beautiful house. I think one of the elements that he used so successfully, and not commonly found in the Usonians, was the decorative block integrated with the brick. It elevates a very good design to elegant perfection. My personal favorite remains Lewis where, while Usonian t...

rgrant: Enjoyed your informed post. I have often questioned the distain for Gill on these posts just as Paula has. I think any curious person should consider sources when discussing Wright, and your comments were illuminating and informative. I did not concern myself with architectural inaccuracies ...

It'll be interesting to see if the minimum bid is any of the recent asking prices! I certainly wish Schaberg all the luck to get maximum "value", and I have no idea what $1.2 million will buy in Okemos. For the longest time he seems to be the only one who agrees it is worth that. A great h...

Glenn: The Coonley House is indeed "superior" to DDM in many ways. If Wright was anything he was capitulative throughout his career, so that alone does not really define any particular work. It was all about an "idea", and if someone did not happen to be able to commission it at ...

Re: Coonley Estate

lesser, works such as the Darwin Martin, Westcott and Robie Houses . Architecture is subjective, as most things are. Still, I would hardly call Martin and Robie "lesser". No argument about the proportional and interior beauty of Coonley-and perhaps in full restoration it would rank at the...

Don't the Taliesin Architects offer a service where they have a form you fill out with what you're looking for and they will go through the FLW files and find a couple of designs that fit you and your property? Don't they charge a percentage of the total building fee for this? Just a thought. Yes, ...

Thanks for taking the time, Spring Green. As you confirmed, my understanding was that Wright sketched the garden that Olga requested just prior to his death. I recall seeing it published somewhere-it looked like a simple freehand sketch one would make on a napkin in a coffee shop. That being the cas...
