Re: Frank Lloyd Wright Selected Drawings Portfolio Vol 1, 2,

Is this 3 volume elephant sized portfolio worth purchasing? What is its history? I flipped through these three volumes recently. The artwork is beautiful, but I am not not convinced that the all of the best drawings were selected. A negative is the sheer volume of space that these 3 volumes occupy....

What turned out to be indigestion or heartburn once caused him to exclaim to the only person around, a young child, (I paraphrase) "Come see how a great man dies!".

Taliesin Preservation Website

A new updated and easier to navigate format, but..... unfortunately, it has also been stripped of what made it different and interesting. The archives are now just bullet points without details and photos, and sadly that is the new program: just another site with directions, hours, and a 5 minute at...

Chris, Since you asked (and I only publicly offer this for those who may find it of interest, those who do not can move on to the next post)... The company was Conecta Intl., in Roturara (sp?) up north. I think I prattled on about it in a previous post. Basically, the component is a 2 x 6 double T&a...

Nice to hear your thoughts. I was struck by your description of materials and technologies. When I was working to import a house product from NZ, I became very familiar with wool insulation and some of the other products. It reminded me how dated many of our building conventions are in the USA. Whil...

I almost agree with rgrant concerning the roof, however, too much of a pitch could alter the characteristics and result you are trying to achieve; specifically a variant of Jacobs I. I'll leave the subjective critique of even attempting it to others. Also, increasing the pitch would either require m...

Thank you so much, Paul, for your fascinating updates. What a thrill it must be to uncover and peer at the same framing a young Wright did! It must be a kick to see the framing solutions, evidence of how early he assimilated and applied structural practices to his revolutionary art form. People at t...

Interesting. It's hard to imagine any trace of the camp in existence in that "environment".

Can one assume from the post the remains of the site were, in fact, at some point and surveyed, studied, etc? If so, by who? I have never seen any other information about this.

There should be more scrutiny of the posts, as long as strong opinion is not censored. It should be easier to participate than not, and better moderation is the antidote to requiring registration. The most opinionated posts, as well as those that might appear inane, often breed interesting discussio...

Oldham is too young to portray FLW in the 30s True, but we are talking Hollywood, and I agree that his looks and performance in Immortal Beloved was uncannily Wrightesque. Hoffmans voice would have to be dubbed! This is only one period in Wrights life and agree that a story about the house while mo...

Neutra is completely overrated (bland was an apt description) and should have stayed in Europe or the universities here. Schindler was by far a superior intellect and architect. Although Wright never conceded anyone to being even close to his equal, various comments he made concerning Schindler clea...
