I just checked my Ennis slides and they are September 1989. I just happened by Ennis and a film was being shot...in the master bedroom. I walked up with a (good) camera around my neck and the guard welcomed me in. I had the run of the place (except I kept clear of where the action was) for as long a...

PH is of course correct that the Standards do not "require". It is rather their frequent misinterpretation or overzealous application. "Each property shall be recognized as a physical record of its time, place, and use. Changes that create a false sense of historical development, such...

Wow. Looks fabulous. For the first time since the house sold I am glad I did not buy it and that someone with the cash and the judgement did. One of the best things is that they are ignoring the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, which require keeping structural inadequacies, materials problems,...

more on Women Fellows

I believe the video is available but curiously how to obtain it is not terribly apparent from the various web sites. I would contact the Beverly Willis Architectural Foundation. If that does not work, let me know and I have another source, SPUR, the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Associat...

Women Fellows

Saw an excellent short (20 minutes) video last night, produced by the Beverly Willis Architectural Foundation (bwaf.org), "A Girl is a Fellow Here: 100 Women in the Office of Frank LLoyd Wright." Profiles half a dozen women who were Fellows - a FLLW quote is the source of the title. Wright...

For photos of the Richardson perfs, go to the Tarantino Studio website, the architect for the restoration. On the website, image 2 of 23 shows perfs. Perhaps better, then go to the gallery, for images 3409 and 1666. Tarantino apparently also designed a gate, 7912, and 6992 for a light fixture (lante...

John Sargent's book Usonian Houses shows the great triangular livingroom of Richardson being built roof first, before the three triangular brick piers on which it rests, was built. The same page (114) shows the exterior walls of the bedroom wing going up before the roof.

The best site analysis I have seen of the relationship between the Bradley and the Hickox houses and the river is found in Wrightscapes, Frank Lloyd Wright's Landscape Designs by Charles E. Aguar and Berdeana Aguar, a much unknown and underappreciated resource (McGraw Hill, 2002). In it, the Aguars ...

I visited there and photographed the building in the early or mid 1970s before the vegetation grew up around it - very handsome building, very well executed. Unfortunately I do not have a slide scanner or I would post the images.

Wonderful to see these pictures, especially Rehbuhn which is not well published. Yes Richardson has an extraordinary livingroom ceiling, and indeed extraordinary woodwork throughout. It is an underappreciated gem. I had the privilege of spending an afternoon with Mrs. (Elizabeth) Richardson there in...
