Monaghan's new religion has led him to build a arch conservative (and architecturally retrograde) Catholic college/new town in Florida called Ave Maria. Heaven help us.

Old FLLW newsclipping

RE: Buehler House perforated boards. There is an excellent article on the rebuilding of the house after the fire, (by Walter Olds, the original apprentice), in the September/October issue of Preservation Magazine. While there is not a dead-on elevation of the boards, the photographer is listed as &q...

RE: Marin County CC roof color. I have not read anything on that, but its not hard to assume that if Olgivanna was picking colors, she picked them all. My assumption is that FLlW intended a copper roof which would turn bluish green in the damp air.

RE: Marin County Civic Center. The published story is that when it originally came time to paint the concrete, FLlW had died, and Olgivanna picked the pink, to general horror. I assume FLlW intended it to be the Gugenheim creamy beige.

If you go to www.popeleighey1940.org you will get the full chronology of the construction and two reconstructions. Somewhere I have seen photographs of Loren Pope's second house - I think in a magazine article, perhaps even on this site, some years ago. As I recall, it was an interesting, modern and...

Having been to Maui, cheesey is too complimentary for this one. While it may be a collection of Wrightian idioms, it isn't even mildly interesting in the flesh. Because it is a public building, the size of everything had to be blown up, and it completely loses any feeling of Wright.

This tragedy was inevitable - the flood plain belongs to the river. When the house came up for sale, the historic crazies fought the idea of moving the house above the flood plain – one of the many irrational standards from the Secretary of the Interior. Throughout history, buildings have been mov...
