SDR: Thank you so much! I lost a couple days figuring it all out but it's a wonderful structure to experience in 3D. Makes the fact that it was destroyed meaninglessly even sadder somehow.

Became slightly obsessed with the Upton house, so I worked on a 3D model, creating some renderings and a walkthrough video. I also found an interesting earlier scheme for the house that was published in 1946 with angled walls and other changes. This links to my blogpost: https://www.trystcraft.com/s...

I think the plan is probably from the 'Built in USA: Post-War architecture' MOMA exhibition brochure as it appears there in the same form.

SDR: Thanks for your swift reply! A photo of the model appears in the book 'Scottsdale Architecture by Douglas B. Sydnor. This link should take you to a preview including those pages: https://books.google.com/books?id=9cBRraxx618C&pg=PA46&dq=louis+c+upton&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj6...

I wanted to also mention that I'm working on colorizing Julius Schulman's photos of the Upton house. You can see 2 here:

SDR: I'm writing a blog post on the Upton house in Scottsdale, AZ. Can you tell me the source of the floorplan you posted earlier in this thread? Also, there is another Schweikher/Elting house in AZ also in Paradise Valley featured in Progressive Architecture Nov 1950, pp 53-57. It includes many gre...

You're very welcome. I'm sure Wright enthusiasts will find plenty to like about Carver's architecture.

You can view lots more photos of Carver homes (mostly photos I've posted) by following the hashtag #normancarver

Yes, Norm worked up till this year, completing a home that was just completed in his subdivision called Twelve Oaks in nearby Oshtemo. Regarding the house in the photo I linked to, it was originally a fairly normal mid century house built 1955ish which the owner asked Norm to modify in the early 60s...

to SDR: Carver had his own practice with wife Joan who was also a Yale-trained architect. He worked for a number of years in Japan in the mid 50s for a large firm then returned to Michigan and worked briefly for Minoru Yamasaki before establishing his own practice in his hometown of Kalamazoo. He ha...

I'm so glad to hear the new photos are appreciated. We were very lucky to visit during a break in the clouds for some much needed sunshine. Roderick Grant - I agree that the way the new/enlarged dining area bumps out goes against the overall scheme. I wonder if another curved/arcing room could have ...

I photographed the Eppstein house for Marika and Tony last week for use in their AirBnb listing. Some of my favorite photos are included in a blog post I wrote here:

Hi David, I remember the visit well. It was great to have such an enthusiastic group come and share their insights and encourage us with the restoration.

We are definitely looking to find new owners who will take care of the house for years to come. It's a house with heaps of character.
