And the architect is...Brooks Walker III, nephew of Della Walker who commissioned the Mrs. Clinton Walker house from Mr. Wright. The family still owns the house and Brooks is the "caretaker."

Back to Wingspread. Anyone know what the story is with the one concrete floor module partially under the fireplace grate that is lighter in color? Have they had leaks in the hydronic heating?

I am very interested to see the Cedar Rock Council Fire(1945) clearly fitted out as a barbecue. The only other photo I recall of the Walter Council Fire is in Storer, where I failed to notice the grate etc. The Council Rock idea of course comes from indian councils, and was used by the Arts and Craf...

The January 1963 issue of House Beautiful is devoted to the Hanna House. Pages 90 - 93 are entitled "We can eat and entertain almost everywhere." There is a rather forlorn 1960 photo looking east from the area of the master bedroom captioned "...Our first barbecue was built at the end...

Beautiful house, beautiful site. However, these charity auctions are not what they seem. "Winners" virtually never take the house, but rather a significantly discounted cash award, because the nominal value is far in excess of the real value, and the winner would have to pay property taxes...

Such a handsome house, that would be a shame to lose. And as stated above, there is a long history of eminent domain takings where the ultimate project never gets built. (Remember Pope-Leighey?) However, in my experience, eminent domain takings end up top-dollar, typically more than the market price...

" The Popes modified the Wright plan for furnishings and decorations of course, to the extent that they omitted several specified items, and chose a turquoise broadloom rather than the more textural gold or tan Klearflax carpet suggested by Taliensin. The broadloom was, however, cut to the size...

I visited with Mrs. Richardson in the house in the early '60s. One of her stories was that she and her husband insisted on a fireplace in the master bedroom against the advice of Mr. Wright. They got their wish. But Mr. Wright had the last word. They built a fire once. It was so hot they couldn't st...
