the fellows
Indira Berndtsen, of the FLLWF archives at Taliesin West, daughter of Cornelia Brierly has, for many years been conducting oral histories, including video, of the former apprentices, and those who were close to either the Wrights or aprrentices. Its an amazing collection, and I have used them for my...

not so fast..............
[quote="RJH"]Doug, As always, I value your comments. However, unconventional buildings as Fallingwater can be successfully built today since they are located in very isolated places such as Stewart Township in Fayette County where there is absolutely no code for residential properties. Thi...

no local building codes or regulations??????????????
I am puzzled that a town or county would not require a building permit, even for a residential building. I would love to see that in writing, from an actual town stating, no building permits, inpections, fees, required to build here. While that sounds like a potential heaven on earth, I can't help b...

Great Architects
Ther are many very good Architects, perhaps even some great ones alive today. I regret that we may never have the opportunity to witness greatness with todays restrictions. In the few remote locations that may be exempt from complying to ordinances and building codes, (not sure where they may be her...

The walker house
While working for Aaron Green, he gave me this little history of his participation with the Walker House. During construction Mrs. Walker had befriended local Architect, and former Wright apprentice, Mark Mills. Mills had left Taliesin on not the best of terms, so he is not to be confused with one o...

Wright and furniture
As AGG told me, Wright was quite pleased when he would find something of someone elses furniture design during the usonian era. Wright and followers frequesntly used Danish Modern designers and especially liked the Walter Von Nessen lamps, such as the brass swing arm models.

Jack
Lets not forget that between 1963 and 1967 both Jack and Lu worked for Aaron Green in San Francisco. When Olga appointed her dear follower J.R. to run the drafting studio, instead of Jack, they went to Aarons to see the Marin County project through. While Jack was clearly defined as a draftsman for ...

Mr. Harding
If I may add my two cents.....Mr. harding, it has been my understanding that one important feature of this forum was to discuss actual preservation of a Wright building. In the couple of years I have been posting here, you have been most active in this feature. I for one thank you for your generosit...

Free it from What? Jim
I think if Jim and many others had their way, the Taliesins would become another Architectural petting zoo, bereft of any signs of continuing life. Enrollment in the school is up, thats a good thing. I have been spending more time at Taliesin West, and am excited about the things that are happening ...

The gallery specializes in very high end Afircan art, and is open typical biz hours. The owner of the gallery, by the way, makes a very good Pinot Noir at his winery in Philo California. The Civic Center is open only on week days, although you can get in the library on weekends. The Hanna house is v...
