You might try a library at a school with an architectural program or try an intra-library loan with your local public library. Indeed, the books are not cheap. I purchased each when they were first published; I thought the DeLong book was pricey in 1988 at $45, but then I was a nearly broke college ...

There are two lists I am aware of: At the back of "Bruce Goff: Toward Absolute Architecture" by David G. DeLong is a comprehensive list of all projects built and unbuilt. The book was published in 1988 and can be found (for a price) used online at retailers like Amazon, Alibris, AbeBooks, ...

The Taliesin "DNA" at Century II is that Roy Varenhorst was an apprentice at Taliesin some time in the '40's or '50's; his name is listed in the Fellows roster at midglen.com (volume5 pdf). Hickman may have been an apprentice, but is not listed on the roster. Hickman and Varenhorst worked ...

A few factoids from the Witchata State University Libraries Special Collections: The architect for Century II was John M. Hickman. George Izenour, who was a theater acoustics and lighting consultant to TAA on most of their performing arts center projects, including Grady Gammage, consulted on Centur...

Despite my earlier comments, I believe Hadid's proposed Annex is not without merits. From my review of the plans, I believe it to have a functional plan; the location of the main entrance on 6th Street addresses well, and gestures toward, the Community Center; view sheds of the Tower along Dewey are...

The pictures of the Lloyd-Jones house in Tulsa reminded me of my visit to Tulsa (same trip as Bartlesville). While there, I found an E. Fay Jones house bordering the Lloyd Jones house property to the south/southwest. The Fay Jones house chimney is visible over the Lloyd Jones rear yard fence. The Fa...

Hadid's work is troublesome for me. I admit that I have found her architectonic paintings of the '80's and '90's to be pleasing, dynamic illustrations. I visited her fire station at the Vitra Factory, and found it to be exciting and soaring as an object and an architectural space, but her work when ...

FTA- Thanks for sharing your memories of your earlier and recent visits to Bartlesville. Was it noted if the apartment once occupied by Bruce Goff on the 9th and 10th floors was converted to hotel use, or might there be plans to restore it to its appearance during Goff's occupancy? I visited in Marc...

Though it's "nothing new", it is a good attempt at something new for Hattiesburg. I have visited the area on the way to visit relatives in Louisiana. The city is a college town, many jobs are related to the University and its support functions, and there is some sprawl along the commercial...

I'd like to see the 30/30/120 trianglular floor plan house offered to Clifton, Jankowski, and Gross in the 1950's constructed. Per my reading of the Monographs, this appears to be one of the few post WWII recurring house types that was not built. The fact that Wright offered it to three clients lead...

Jim- I remember the listing of the house with the hexagon pods... I saw it in one of the national luxury real estate mags..Unique Homes I think, around that period. I recognized it immediately as not Wright..not because I was all that perceptive in junior high, but because I had seen the house in a ...

Precisely why I wish I had clipped the article before my parents used the sunday magazine to kindle a fire in the fireplace. I was in junior high at the time, and not as critical of what I read as I am now. If I had the article, I could have a chance of looking up the owner or comparing the photos t...

A "Disowned" Wright house in the Philly 'Burbs?

I'll post this question to see if anyone else remembers or knows of a house I vaguely remember from a newspaper article which I wish I had saved. I saw an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday magazine in the late '70's or very early '80's that described a house designed by Wright post-WWII, i...

Now that I actually read the listing rather than just look at the pictures, I see Schweizer is noted. Wright's and Schweizer's roles are a bit confused and muddy, but I guess that is par for the course in these types of listings.

I wonder if the listing is a case of confusion in attribution rather than misrepresentation. A former apprentice, Nels Schweizer, practice(d) in Florida and oversaw construction of some of Florida Southern's FLLW buildings, and later in the '60's and '70's, designed some of the later buildings on ca...
