Thank you both. The Scheine book sounds like the one to get if I get only one. SDR's paperback sounds good too as it has a lot of plans and sections. Bookish as I am, I may get both if I can find the other...SDR, do you recall the approximate publish date or publisher of the book? I might be able to...

In the market for a book about RM Schindler
With somewhat limited shelf space and funds available for book acquisitions, if I were to buy one book about Schindler, what would you chatters most recommend? I should note I prefer books about architecture to include a lot of floor plans.

Thanks for these links. I've always been particularly drawn to the German Expressionist work as pictured here...it is an interesting blend of Art Deco details, Prairie forms/asymmetry, and in some respects, British modernism as seen in Charles Holden's Underground stations. The work has a rich textu...

Kenneth Laurent 1919-2012
Upon seeing John's note of Mr. Laurent's passing on another thread, I found the following link to a local TV news spot: http://mystateline.com/fulltext-news?nxd_id=316002 Another life well lived. It would seem living in an organic house is good for one's life span judging by some of the obituaries p...

There is a considerable amount of steel in the roof particularly at the carport and at locations where perforated blocks act as clerestories in the middle of the living/dining area roof level changes, but the majority of the roof framing is wood. I should note that the steel sections used appear to ...

michaelmaguire...thanks again for your blog. My wife and I visited the campus and the construction site on January 13 while we were in Florida. The site superintendent let us wander the site and see the work up close while the constructors were on lunch break. At its current stage, all is visible. O...

It sounds like a very happy ending to what must have been a Herculean task of selling your CA home and packing your lives up to move halfway across the continent. I'm glad to hear you can now do sane road trips to Lamberson on a more regular basis. The 5 or 6 hour drive every other week or so is sma...
