The new picture that wjsaia posts is intriguing, but I agree that the terrain and horizons don't seem to match the site. The view to the south or south/southwest might work, as the terrain to the south is rather flat, but something still seems odd. See page 10 of this thread for an overlay of a curr...

Palli. I checked my photos over the weekend. It is amazing how lousy the quality of old Kodak 110 film was...but the pictures were clear enough to show that the original perfs had been removed sometime before my visit in October, 1982. I should note that the wood siding, fascias and sashes were all ...

ATAS International used to produce Bermuda seam metal roof panels in either galvanized or Kynar500 paint finish. I spec'd them on some projects in the '90's with good results. As I recall, the company rep I worked with on the projects noted that it was not a popular product, possibly due to the need...

I doubt the Wright's did anything to correct problems that might have developed over the years. I'd be a bit more charitable...David was 55 or 56 years old when he and Gladys moved into the house in 1951. Considering that during most of the house's 60 years, it was occupied and maintained by an eld...

Hmm...I still have an argyle bat-wing sweater that I bought at Kaufmann's in the mid-'80's. Maybe I could sell it on Ebay using the Fallingwater connection, or that it has resided in a FLLW closet for a few years. Now if I just had some golf balls to sweeten the deal... (no pun intended). BTW, the c...

Palli. I'll try to dig up my Christie pics this evening. In the mean time, I recalled that the Tarantino's (architects, owners of the Bachman-Wilson house) had done some work at Christie. On their website home page, click on "PRESERVATION", then "FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT", then "C...

wjsaia, your post is the first that I have known of an ordinance anywhere which would limit the burning of wood due to health concerns. Is it possibly unique to the Bay area given its specific atmospheric conditions? It's hard to imagine that there are that many fireplaces or wood stoves such that t...

I'll have to look for my 1982-83 pictures and see if the perfs were present then. I wonder what became of them when they were removed? There would be a lot of them...did each sash have an interior and exterior board?

At Sweeton, the workshop, workspace, and basement doors were originally spec'd as flush magogany doors with no glass lites, brass Schlage hardware as found elsewhere on the house (knobs are at a standard height), and 3 butt hinges each. All were installed as spec'd in 1951. According to Sweeton reco...
