Great little house. The gable end prow windows admit a lot of light and lend spaciousness to the rooms. I also like the trapezoidal little desk worked into the corner next to the closet to resolve an otherwise difficult spot to utilize...nothing wasted.

Grey would have been a better color... white will show dust more readily. Vacuuming will capture most of the dust, but a microfiber rag or brush will be needed eventually....says the guy who dusts a few hundred feet of redwood battens while listening to surf guitar played too loudly each month.

If I’m not mistaken “The Rocketeer and “Black Rain were other late 20th century movies that had scenes at Ennis.

Thanks for posting this article, the exploded view is great to see. LIFE was the parent company of Architectural Forum magazine 1892-1974. I believe there was sometimes crossover when editors believed a building, usually a house, would appeal to the public at large. Stoneflower was also published in...

Lockridge at Polymath...nice idea, but the terrain would say otherwise. Dense woods and steep hills make up most of it. Not the setting for a 5000 SF flat site building. There is an open field, but to place a building in it would spoil a long view from Berndtson’s Blum house, which is key to ...

Why a teardown? Some uber wealthy person could want a Zen-like retreat "from it all", or the Mills house could be a guest house to a larger new house, sensitively built on the property. Still, the property could also be subdivided and the Mills house might be saved as folly amid a dense cl...

Moving this topic forward from the Great Outage. Keywords: foursquare, fireproof, 5000 A recent post brought up the subject of Prairie elements showing up on American Foursquares and them in turn being tied to Wright. A link to a foursquare whose designer seemed aware of Wright's Hunt and Stockman, ...

The perspective view is for a different project; research may uncover which project this drawing represents. I believe the print of the perspective rendering, sans titles, is a preliminary version of Weisblat further down the lane. The view is taken from the drive approach...the as-built house has ...

American Foursquares in published plan books picked up Prairie details from time to time. The one in the following link looks as if its designer liked the exterior of Wright's Fireproof for $5K model or took a walk up Williams Street in River Forest: http://www.antiquehomestyle.com/img/21ahb-11870.jpg

I'm smitten! The fireplace though, somewhat floating amid the glass still achieves anchorage with the concrete wings. The copper sheet siding and battens throughout is great...I like how the tendency for the material to "oil can" or wrinkle was accepted and treated as texture. The consiste...

There is a lot to like about the Iowa house. The term "Wright inspired" seems fair. However, the number and types of materials used may not be "Wright principled".
